Lampung Chalks Up Strong Economic Growth

Bandarlampung, Feb 25 (Antara) - Lampung recorded an economic growth of 6.4 percent in fourth quarter of 2013, higher than the previous quarter growth of 6.3 percent.

Investment , exports and imports were the biggest drivers for growth in the last quarter of 2013, the Lampung representative office of Bank Indonesia said.

Nunu Hendrawanto, the spokesman of the BI representative office, said the increase in the economic growth was also attributable to growing agricultural and manufacturing sectors.

The Lampung economic growth was above the country`s average growth of 5.7 percent in the same period.

The agricultural sector remained the biggest contributor to the economy of the province, followed by the tourism sector.

Year-on-year , however, the economy of Lampung suffered a slowdown in 2013 .

The growth in 2013 was only 6 percent down from 6.5 percent in 2012.

The slow down was attributable to slowing investment , agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
