Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) held a ceremonial welcome by following a water salute tradition for an aircraft that arrived with the G20 delegation.

The ceremonial welcome was extended to the G20 delegates that arrived this week and will attend the Sherpa first meeting on December 7-8, 2021, in Jakarta, Executive General Manager at Soetta Agus Haryadi remarked.

"We followed this water salute tradition as a welcome gesture and mark of honor for all G20 delegates. This also marks Soekarno-Hatta Airport's readiness to support Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022," Haryadi remarked in his statement here on Tuesday.

The airport's executive GM noted that the water salute tradition was well-known in the aviation world as a form of welcome for the arrival of passengers or the aircraft itself.

The water salute tradition for the G20 delegation at Soetta was conducted by two type Foam Tender 3000 vehicles of the Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS).

The two vehicles, facing each other and positioned parallel on the taxiway lane at a distance of about 95 meters, shot water upwards at a 45-degree angle that met at one point, so the water shot formed a giant arc.

Qatar Airways QR 954, with the G20 delegation onboard, passed between the two ARFSS cars and got drenched under the water arc.

Haryadi stated that the Qatar Airways QR 954 flight departed from Abu Dhabi and landed at Soetta at around 2:40 p.m. local time, with six G20 delegates from the United Kingdom, India, Russia, and Sweden.

After getting off the plane at Terminal 3 of Soetta, the G20 delegates met with a companion team that provided assistance related to airport handling and hospitality, he added.

Moreover, the VIP Terminal at Soetta was operated to welcome the delegates. According to Haryadi, the welcoming process for the G20 delegates at the airport proceeded smoothly.

In an effort to support the activities of G20 delegates in Indonesia, Soetta applies a health protocol readiness (HORE) application that can be used by G20 delegates for digital data collection, wherein it is integrated with the PeduliLindungi application.
