Pesawaran, Lampung (ANTARA LAMPUNG) - The Indonesian Marine Corps and the Royal Thai Marine Corps will hold a joint exercise at Caligi Beach, Pesawaran district, Lampung province.

Marine Corps commander Maj. Gen. Alfan Baharudin said here on Tuesday that the joint exercise would be carried out after the arrival of a Thai marine observers team that will assess the exercise.

The Indonesian military (TNI) headquarters would develop the joint exercise plan, he added

"This is the first time Thailand has sent its observers team for the landing exercise since 1978," Alfan noted.

The Indonesian Marine Corps will field 1,735 personnel and combat equipment in the amphibious landing exercise.

In addition, Thailand will send four marine officers of lieutenant colonel rank: CDR. Kiatkong Pan-Ohn, CDR. Rerngrach Uttisen, CRD. Worrawut Sliprakop, and CDR. Pilan Asamang.

"They will evaluate the preparations for the joint exercise," Alfan explained.

Meanwhile, CRD. Kiatkong Pan-Ohn said the Thai marines would also invite their Indonesian counterparts later.
