Jakarta, Jan 15 (ANTARA Lampung) - President Joko Widodo will soon discuss the candidate for national police chief who has been approved by the House of Representatives (DPR), Cabinet Secretary Andi Wijayanto said.

"There will be two more meetings to discuss options to be taken," Andi said following a meeting at the Presidential Palace here on Thursday.

Also present at the meeting was Minister/State Secretary Pratikno.

"There will be a meeting after Maghrib evening prayers," Andi said.

House Speaker Setya Novanto submitted the result of a fit and proper test on the candidate for national police chief to President Joko Widodo earlier in the day.

Novanto said the DPR agreed to the nomination of Comsr. Gen. Budi Gunawan for the post of national police through a long process.

"The process was quite long, with all factions of the House given a chance to express their views," he said.
Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) approved Gunawan's candidacy by acclamation at a plenary session of the parliament.

Nine factions of the DPR approved the appointment of Budi Gunawan as the next national police chief to replace current chief, General Sutarman.

The commission's decision was confirmed at a plenary session of the DPR here on Thursday by all political party factions, except those of the Democratic Party and the National Mandate Party.

The nomination of Comsr. Gen. Budi Gunawan for the post of national police chief has sparked protests.
On Tuesday (January 13), the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Budi Gunawan as a suspect in an alleged bribery case.
