Bandarlampung (ANTARA LAMPUNG) - Lampung province's exports of several non-oil/non-gas commodities to Japan fell following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in the country.
As a result of the natural disasters, Lampung's exports to Japan dropped to US$24.98 million in March from US$30.99 million in February, the chief of Bank Indonesia's office in Bandarlampung, I Made Subaga Wirya, said on Sunday.
Many Japanese buyers canceled orders for export commodities from Lampung a few weeks after the tsunami devastated northeast Japan, he said.
Yet Lampung's exports to Japan in the first quarter of 2011 grew 19.59 percent compared to the same period last year, he said.
Lampung's exports to Japan included coffee, tea, spices, vegetable and animal oils, fish, shrimp and rubber.
Japan was the fourth biggest market for Lampung's exports, contributing 11.2 percent of the province's overall exports in the three months through March.
The United States took the lead, buying 13.46 percent of Lampung's export commodities, followed by India with 13.6 percent and China with 11.76 percent.
Lampung's exports in the first quarter of 2011 were dominated by animal/vegetable oils, contributing 24.3 percent of its overall exports, followed by coffee, tea, and spices 21.93 percent. (ANTARA/A054)
