Jokowi Calls 2014 Decisive Year

Malang, E Java, March 30 (Antara) - Favorite presidential candidate from the Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has called 2014 a decisive year for the party.

"This year is a decisive year. It is only nine days away (for it to happen) and for it I have not slept for the past three days," he said before the party's supporters in a campaign rally here on Sunday.

Showing how hard he has worked, he said "I have traveled from Lampung to West Java and just now at five I went to Bajarmasin and later for an hour I flew here while tomorrow I would go to Ngawi, Magetan, Madiun and then Pacitan."

He said "I have done it because this year will be a decisive year."

In view of that he also called on all party supporters to also work hard to make the party win huge votes in the legislative election on April 9.

"We must win a big number of votes this year because we want to have a strong parliament. If the parliament is strong the president will also be strong," he said.

Referring to himself, Jokowi said "although I am thin God willing I will be strong. I only weight 54 kilograms and I have lost a half kilogram due to a lot of travels that I have made so far. But I am still healthy."

Jokowi said he wanted to have a strong parliament because "we would not like to see a parliament being held hostage, (its decisions) being negotiated."

According to latest survey by Charta Politika Indonesia, PDIP's electability has been the highest, followed by Golkar Party and Gerindra.

PDIP Secretary General Tjahjo Kumolo, who accompanied Jokowi, meanwhile called on the cares to participate in monitoring polling activities.

"Mme Megawati (PDIP's general chairperson) has heard the people's aspirations to make Jokowi the party's presidential candidate and therefore we appeal to all people in Indonesia to supervise activities at polling stations until they are finished to prevent any fraud," he said.

With regard to Jokowi he said that Jokowi would not change if he was elected as president, namely he would remain close to the people.
