Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) - Former first lady Kristiani Herawati, better known as Ani Yudhoyono, received many prestigious awards during her 10 years of accompanying her husband, the sixth Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).

"Mme Ani was an inspiring, sturdy and excellent woman who won various awards," Zainal, cadre of the Tanjungpinang city executive board of the Democrat Party, said on Sunday.

The awards included a medal of merit Tanda Kehormatan Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipradana of 2011, and a golden pin from M. Yunus, Nobel Peace laureate 2006 and founder of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, for her commitment to encourage the development of small and medium businesses and micro credits in Indonesia through the Women-Healthy and Prosperous Family and Creative Indonesia (Perkasa) program, Zainal said.

Ani Yudhoyono was also awarded the Certificate of Global Leadership from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) for her leadership in the ten million tree-planting and attending movement program across Indonesia, he said.

The other award was a golden pin from the State Ministry of Women's Empowerment, in recognition of her role in promoting the quality of women's and children's lives during the peak commemoration of World Breast Milk Week 2007.

Zainal said Ani Yudhoyono was also close to Democrat Party cadres.

Ani Yudhoyono passed away at the National University of Singapore Hospital on Saturday (June 1, 2019), after being treated for blood cancer since February this year. She was 66.
