Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin highlighted the significance of strict screening for Indonesian citizens (WNI) and foreign nationals (WNA) entering Indonesia amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The screening process aims to lower the likelihood of the entry of the COVID-19 variant into Indonesia.
"The screening covers international travel health protocols, such as adjusting the time of quarantine and provisions regarding PCR for international travelers while still anticipating the risk of transmission from other countries," Vice President Amin remarked while chairing a limited meeting on evaluation of the community activities restrictions (PPKM) on Monday.
In addition, Vice President Amin appealed to the public to implement mitigatory measures against a potential third wave of COVID-19 in Indonesia.
Mitigation must be strengthened by conducting testing, tracing, and treatment (3T) for the entire community.
"We need to maintain our achievement in reducing the number of active cases from the second wave on July. For that, I think we must continue to strengthen 3T, isolation, and vaccination," he remarked.
The vice president is optimistic of expedited provision of COVID-19 vaccines to people in various regions at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy affirmed that the government had urged the public to remain vigilant over the transmission of COVID-19.
"Although the COVID-19 transmission is relatively low, we must continue to be vigilant. Please implement strict health protocols to prevent transmission," Effendy remarked after attending the meeting as quoted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account.
The Indonesian government continues to expedite administration of the COVID-19 vaccination to the public by targeting 291.6 million of the population to be inoculated in December 2021.
"The vaccination target for December 2021 is 291.6 million people, comprising 80.9 percent given the first dose and 59.1 percent, the second dose," Effendy added.
