We should encourage university students to enter the business world, whether they are micro, medium, or small enterprises.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - University graduates should create new jobs, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy said at  Pancasila University's graduation ceremony here on Saturday.

"We should encourage university students to enter the business world, whether they are micro, medium, or small enterprises," he stated.

University graduates can still work as civil servants or work at established companies, but it would be better if they are capable of creating new jobs, he remarked.

The startup industry has so many opportunities to grow and there are a plethora of facilities that the government is providing, whether it is in the form of money or mentorship, to help develop the industry, he highlighted.

"Training schemes are targeted toward university students and graduates," Effendy informed.

In addition, there are also pre-employment cards that can be accessed by university graduates and even students who are starting to learn to build startups, he said.

"Technological development cannot be contained. In fact, we encourage their acceleration because the additional value from this digital economy would be very significant to economic growth," he noted.

Meanwhile, the Rector of Pancasila University, Prof. Edie Toet Hendratno, said that preparing an entrepreneur is a long process that involves time and training.

"You can count how many from ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) became successful entrepreneurs. There are Siswono Yudo Husodo, Arifin Panigoro, and a couple of others, but they are the popular ones," he noted.

He informed that the goal of Pancasila University in the future is to become an Entrepreneurial University, meaning an educational institution that provides its graduates with entrepreneurial knowledge.

"We continue to invite business practitioners so that they can provide public lectures that are not theoretical, but based on field experiences so that our students can understand how the business world works," he elaborated.
