Bandarlampung (Antaranews Lampung) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia and the Ministry of Transportation will complete the infrastructure in the form of adding double track and building a new route in the form of "shortcuts" from Tegineneng Station to Tarahan, South Lampung.
The completeness of the infrastructure and the construction of the shortcut are to increase coal transport to a figure of 45 million tons per year by 2023, said Public Relations Manager of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Division (Divre) IV Tanjungkarang Sapto Hartoyo, Wednesday.
He explained, with this shortcut, the long-range coal train trip (Babaranjang) was no longer going through the city center, so that it could avoid the social impact on other land transportation users in the form of congestion at a level crossing.
According to Sapto, road users often feel disturbed if the Babaranjang train passes at a level crossing because the waiting time is up to 15 minutes.
With the shortcut path, freight trains no longer pass through urban areas but can directly cut through rural lines. If this is realized, it is expected that there will be no more congestion in the city due to the passage of the Babaranjang Railway.
"People are no longer disturbed by the Babaranjang train which often makes traffic jams. Pray, this work can be completed on time," he said.
Sapto hoped that the community would continue to be patient until the shortcut railway was finished and always be careful to maintain safety when passing on the railroad track.
