Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of Indonesians receiving their second dose of the coronavirus vaccine rose by 11,292 on Thursday, taking the tally of fully vaccinated recipients to 8,919,557, according to the Task Force for COVID-19 Handling.
Meanwhile, the number of people receiving their first COVID-19 jab increased by 17,230 on Thursday, taking the total count to 13,695,553, the task force added.
The Indonesian government is aiming to inoculate 40,340,049 people against COVID-19 in the first and second phases of the vaccination program.
The targeted recipients under the two phases include 1,468,764 healthcare workers, 21,553,118 senior citizens, and 17,327,167 public service officers.
So far, 1,468,754 healthcare workers, 1,817,491 senior citizens, and 5,733,295 public service officers have received both doses of the vaccine, the task force informed.
Altogether, the government is planning to vaccinate 181.5 million citizens under the national program to create herd immunity against the virus.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the country recorded 3,448 fresh COVID-19 cases, 4,201 recoveries, and 99 deaths.
Since the start of the pandemic in March, 2020, Indonesia’s COVID-19 caseload has reached 1,731,652, with 1,589,079 people recovering from the infection and 47,716 others succumbing to it.
According to Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, the country has sufficient vaccine stocks in May, 2021 to accelerate the pace of the vaccination program in June.
Indonesia has received additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Sinovac and AstraZeneca, he informed earlier.
Indonesia received 3.8 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX facility, coordinated under the GAVI scheme, on April 26, 2021. In May, 2021, it is expecting to receive another 2 x 3.8 million doses of the vaccine, Sadikin informed.
