S Lampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, Lampung Province, erupted four times on Friday, two of which were accompanied by flames, the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Agency (PVMBG) reported.

Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran Village, Rajabasa Sub-district, South Lampung District, Lampung Province, Andi Suardi, stated on Friday that the eruptions occurred since afternoon until night.

The PVMBG noted that the volcano spewed a thin to medium grey ash column, with a height of 350 meters (m) above the peak towards the northeast at 1:12 p.m. (Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).

The next eruption occurred at 9:35 p.m. WIB and was recorded by the seismogram, with a maximum amplitude of 55 millimeters (mm) and a duration of 38 seconds.


Meanwhile, the other active volcano with high-activity intensity were Mount Marapi in West Sumatra Province, with 27 eruptions, and Mount Semeru in East Java, with 20 eruptions, in January 2023.
