Private Vehicles Swarm Bakauheni Port

Bakauheni, Lampung, July 21 (ANTARA Lampung) - Eid travelers using private vehicles thronged Bakauheni Port in Lampung on Monday, three days after Lebaran (D+3).
Thousands of private vehicles were seen in the parking zones of the piers at the port, since the early hours of Tuesday. The Eid travelers were waiting for their turn to cross Sunda Strait to reach Java from Bakauheni Port in Lampung.
Rosela, a traveler from Bandung, West Java, said she had chosen to travel to Bandung on Tuesday because she was scheduled to return to work on Wednesday.
Moreover, the Inland Waterway Transportation Service (PT ASDP) had predicted that the peak flow of travelers returning after Eid would take place on Tuesday (D+4).
"We predict that the peak flow of returning travelers will take place four days after (D+4) Eid, or Lebaran. These will mostly include travelers heading to Java," Tomy L. Kaunang, the general manager of PT ASDP for Bakauheni, stated.
Hundreds of thousands of travelers headed home for Lebaran, he noted, adding that the number of returning travelers is expected to be the same.
To serve the passengers wanting to reach Merak Port in Java, PT ASDP prepared 50 ships and six piers.
From D+1 to D+3, as many as 196,403 Eid travelers had returned to Java from Sumatra.
Before Lebaran, the number of travelers who had left Java for Sumatra to celebrate the festival in their hometowns was 647,800.
Moreover, Merak Port of Java and Bakauheni Port of Sumatra witnessed an influx of travelers on D-7, seven days before Eid, according to a press statement released by the Bakauheni branch of PT ASDP on Tuesday.
Till Monday (D+3), as many as 17,910 two-wheelers and 21,224 cars returned to Jakarta.
The total number of two- and four-wheeled vehicles that were ferried through the ports before Lebaran was 65,356 and 64,839, respectively.
According to PT ASDP, till Tuesday, the number of Eid travelers yet to return to Jakarta from Sumatra amounted to 455,397.
In addition, the flow of Eid travelers along the Sumatran highway on Tuesday (D+4) was still high.
