Jakarta (Antara Lampung) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto said that Indonesia and Myanmar need to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly on sectors that are potential to be developed through cooperation in the future.
"From a visit to Naypyidaw last month, I realize that Indonesia and Myanmar need to deepen their bilateral relations in some sectors such as agriculture, industry, livestock, textile, manufacture and food production," Wiranto said at the 70th Anniversary of Myanmar's Independence Day celebrated in Jakarta on Thursday evening.
In addition to deliver his hope for Myanmar's succeed and prosperity, Wiranto said that Indonesia and Myanmar have longstanding and mutually beneficial relationships over the years.
Myanmar is also a partner of Indonesia in various fields, as well as fellow ASEAN members.
In addition to bilateral relations, he said, the two countries are also working together in the field of security, especially in terms of fighting human trafficking.
The government of Indonesia, he said, is also working with their Myanmar counterpart to address the situation in Rakhine State, among them is building schools and hospitals as well as providing humanitarian assistance.
Indonesia supports Myanmar to maximize its potential power, not only for the people, but also for ASEAN and the world.
"Together with ASEAN member states we need to continue to play a significant role in strengthening the ASEAN community, together we build a stronger ASEAN," Wiranto noted.
