Bandarlampung (ANTARA LAMPUNG) - Police have shot dead two suspects in robbery of state lender Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in Tulangbawang District, Lampung Province, on Monday night.
"Police are still after other suspects taking part in the robbery," spokeswoman of the Lampung regional police Adj. Sr. Comr Sulistyangsih said here on Tuesday.
The two dead suspects were identified as Marwoto and Nelson from Teluk Betung, Bandarlampung, Sulistyangsih said.
She said the robbery took place in broad day light at 01.00 local time on Monday.
The robbers grabbed the bank manager and tied the five other employees of the bank under the threat of knife ends on their bodies, Sulistyangsih said.
The robbers then forced the bank employees to open the safe and took all the money totaling around Rp7.216 billion, she said.
The robbers sped away in a car after locking the front door from outside, she said.
"The robber got away with Rp7.216 billion in cash, but there were only Rp6.7 billion left in the car when it was finally caught by police," she said.
Other suspects still at large are Rapiudin and Djimi winter.
Police also confiscated the car, a Toyota Avanza, and five cellular phones, long knives and rope as evidence.
