Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Ministry’s Secretary-General Heru Pambudi received five million vaccine doses manufactured by Sinovac at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"With the arrival of five million vaccine doses in finished form by Sinovac, the number of vaccines received by Indonesia, both in the form of finished product and bulk vaccines, totals over 200 million," Pambudi noted in an online speech here on Monday.

Amid the scarcity of vaccines worldwide, the government has succeeded in securing vaccine stocks to meet the requirements of Indonesian citizens. This success was not easy to achieve, so Indonesia needs to optimize and accelerate the vaccination program to build herd immunity more quickly.

"The President has targeted to administer two million vaccine doses per day, and with the support of all relevant parties, God willing, it can be achieved by the end of this month," he affirmed.

In terms of the budget, Pambudi noted that the Ministry of Finance had allocated Rp57.75 trillion for vaccinations. Hence, he appealed to all people to immediately get vaccinated.

To date, 31 million Indonesians have been fully vaccinated or administered two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, 57 million Indonesians had only received one dose of the vaccine.

"From the targeted 208 million people (vaccinated) to build herd immunity, we still need to vaccinate 150 million people," he affirmed.

Pambudi also reminded the public to stay disciplined in implementing health protocols in their daily activities, especially by wearing masks and complying with the mobility restrictions imposed by the government.

In a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19, the Indonesian government launched nationwide vaccinations on January 13, 2021. President Joko Widodo was the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the country.
