Jakarta (ANTARA) - Megawati Soekarnoputri, the fifth Indonesian president and chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle  (PDIP), is planning to meet soon with Prabowo Subianto, presidential candidate and chairperson of the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party.

"The meeting of these two figures is a tradition of good hospitality to be done by leaders," PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said in a written statement in Jakarta Tuesday.

During the 2019 Presidential Election campaign, relations between Megawati and Subianto went well, they respected each other, and never said or did anything that created a distance, according to Hasto.

"Mrs. Megawati believes in Mr. Prabowo's statesmanship and the same as Mr Jokowi's. Leadership that is unifying and colored by dialogue between leaders, is something that leaders should do," he said.

When and where Megawati and Prabowo Subianto will meet will be informed later, according to Hasto.

"The meeting will involve fundamental aspects, friendship between leaders. Although political choices differed, Mrs. Megawati and Mr. Prabowo have a commitment to dialogue and have put the interests of the nation and the state above everything else. Whatever post-election reconciliation is important," he said.

The meeting of the two national figures should not be interpreted too far with the formation of the coalition, Hasto reminded. "Regarding the post-presidential coalition, the politeness must be discussed jointly between the president and the general chairman of the coalition's political parties," he said.

The planned meeting would usher in a spirit of mutual cooperation that became the essence of the state ideology Pancasila that Megawati continued to carry out, according to Hasto.

Prabowo was Megawati's running mate in the 2009 presidential election where she lost to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).
