Bandarlampung, April 5 (Antara) - Lampung Governor Sjachroedin ZP has asked state gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) to immediately finished construction of gas pipeline in Lampung, to put an end to its energy crisis.

Describi8ng the crisis as serious Sjachroedin said PGN`s integrated integrated natural gas pipeline project and the power generating project of Lampung branch of the state electricity company (PLN) are important to end the crisis.

The projects are vital for the development of industrial areas in this region," he added.

He said the integrated gas pipeline project includes a 100 kilometer gas pipeline and a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU).

The Lampung FSRU has a capacity of 2 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG). FSRU will received LNG to be converted back into gas before being sent to the end of consumers.

"I have granted the license for the facility, therefore, construction of the project must be finished as soon as possible to help boost economic development in the region," Sjachroedin said.

He said since 2007, Lampung has stood watching natural gas being sent using pipes crossing its land from South Sumatra to West Java across the sea.

"None of the gas was used to generate electricity and for household fuel in this province," he said .

At that time, the reason given by the government was limited supply of natural gas by Chevron from South Sumatra .

Chevron sends natural gas from South Sumatra to Singapore and West Java using pipes.

Now PGN is building FSRU and distribution pipeline in Lampung, therefore, the government should help speed up gas allocation for the province, he said.

The provincial administration has coordinated actively with the central government to cope with electricity crisis in the region, he said.

He said the completion of facility will guarantee gas supply industrial estates to be built in Lampung, such as the 300 hectare Lampung Industrial Estate , the Maritim Tanggamus Industrial Estate to be built over a 2,000 hectare plot of land and the Lampung Selatan Industrial Estate to be built over a 15,000 hectare plot of land in the sub-district of Ketibung-Ketapang.
